Hi Reader, Booking a vacation should be exciting, not stressful. A dream trip can quickly go sideways when a few key booking details are overlooked. Here are three of the most common (EXPENSIVE) mistakes travelers make and how you can avoid them. 1. Booking The Wrong Resort For Your Travel Style We’ve talked before about how Beaches Turks and Caicos isn’t the best fit for everyone. Your friends might have had the best time there with their three kids, but if you’re planning an anniversary trip, that’s probably not the vibe you’re after. It’s easy to see the photos, read great reviews, and think it’s perfect, until you arrive and realize it’s packed with hundreds of families when you were hoping for something quieter and more romantic. The problem is, by the time you figure that out, it’s too late. You’ve spent thousands on a family-friendly resort when you could have used that same budget for a better-matched property like Wymara or Grace Bay Club. The fix is to know your travel style before you book. Decide what kind of atmosphere you want, whether it’s lively, relaxed, romantic, or social, and make sure the resort aligns with that. A little bit of research can completely change how your trip feels. ➕ If you missed our email about Beaches not being the best for everyone, here's the condensed Instagram version 📱 2. Booking A Non-Refundable Rate This one stresses me out, even to write about it....😬 Vacations are expensive, and we all love to save where we can. It’s easy to believe nothing will come up to derail the trip, so you book the non refundable rate thinking "what could possibly go wrong." But life alwaaaays happens. Imagine suddenly finding yourself in a cast a month before your bucket list beach vacation. Now you’re sitting by the pool, staring at the ocean you can’t swim in, when you could have easily rescheduled and enjoyed it the way you planned. Unless you’re booking at the very last minute, never go for the non-refundable rate. That small savings up front can turn into a big loss later. Flexible rates with cancellation policies in place give you options to cancel without penalty or reschedule, saving you time, stress, and frustration if plans suddenly change. 3. Skipping Travel Insurance It’s true that many credit cards offer some protection, but “cancel for any reason” coverage can be a lifesaver if you need to cancel unexpectedly, either before or during your trip. It also helps if your flights are delayed, your luggage is lost, or a family emergency forces you to change plans halfway through your vacation. A lot of travelers skip insurance because they don’t think they’ll need it, but it’s one of those things you’re grateful for when the unexpected happens. It covers more than most people realize, including trip interruption, medical emergencies, and weather-related delays that can throw off connections or strand you overnight. Those things don’t happen often, but when they do, you’ll be glad you’re covered. Be sure to book your insurance within two weeks of reserving your trip to get the best coverage options. It’s a small upfront expense that can save you thousands and a lot of unnecessary stress if something goes sideways. That's all for this week! Before you book your next trip, keep these things in mind. Taking a little extra time to match the right resort to your travel style, choose flexible booking options, and protect your investment can save you a lot of money and frustration in the long run. 🍁Special shout out to our Canadian friends and followers celebrating Thanksgiving this weekend!
